1940 aged 17 years, having just joined the army [declared he was 20!!!]:

Vic spent 5 and a half years in the Australian Army during WW2. Most of that
time as a POW in Changi(Singapore) and later in Kamburi on the Thai-Burma Railway in Thailand.

Vic and Joy before they were married at Dossy and Fonsi's wedding in late 1945.
Vic had not long before returned from being a POW in Thailand.
Vic was still in army, discharged 2 Jan 1946 :

Vic and Joy divorced on 16th December, 1965 at Newcastle Supreme Court after many years of an extremely rocky marriage,
in which Vic had severe addictions to alcohol and gambling.
On a positive note, in the years after the divorce Vic started attending AA and managed to bring his alcohol addiction
under control.
