  BDM NSW reg #5810/1914 (birth) "WATTS LEONARD S" f-LEONARD V m-RUTH district-Waratah Was born extremely premature in 1914 at 26 Rawson Street Mayfield. He was 3/4 pound (approx. 400g). The midwife handed Leonard to his grandmother Ruth Beal, and said not to bother washing him as he wouldn't live. Ruth Christensen, his mother, said that he would live and that she would look after him. When Leonard was born he had no hair, no eye lashes, no finger nails and no skin. You could see the inside of his brain working. The two Ruths couldn't dress himbecause he had no skin so they would wipe olive oil over him and wrap him in cotton wool. His dad, Leonard VC, would go to the abattoirs and get ox bloodwhich they would mix with breast milk and feed to Leonard through an eye dropper. Leonard was 2 before he could walk and was always small but very strong. He died in 2010 almost 96 years old.
