Elsie Crawford was born on 3rd September, 1901 at Carrington to John Richard Crawford and Mary Henderson.
Before she was even 3 years old she had lost her mother who drowned in Newcastle Harbour on 4th March 1904, aged only 43.

She had previously lost her maternal grandmother, Jane McConichy_Henderson on 19 February, 1903 and her maternal grandfather James Henderson would also pass away on 07 October 1906.
Additionally, she never knew her paternal grandparents in Scotland - her grandfathers death date is not known and her grandmother passed away in 1906.
So Mary was basically brought up by her older siblings and father, but only until she was 13 years old when he too passed away in 1914.
When her mother passed away Elsie's siblings were aged : Jane 18, James 16, Isabela 14, Serah 12, Mary 10, William 7 and Walter 5.
Elsie married Henry Wesley EVANS on 6th March, 1926 at St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Laman Street, Newcastle.
