    • James kearns was born about 1814 in Monaghan, Ireland to John and Catherine (maiden name not known).
      He married Eleanor Armstrong on 15th June 1840 at Manchester Cathedral, Lancashire, England. Elenaor was also from Ireland and not a Catholic.

      They settled in Maitland and later Newcastle.
      James secured work as a Fencer and Splitter.
      James and Ellen had 5 children that grew to adulthood but sadly they
      lost another 7 children.


      James died on 4th july 1890, aged 76, from Natural Causes(senile decay) at his daughter's, Jane Chadwick,
      house at 13 Cardwell Street in Balmain.

      His wife Eleanor had died in 1877 in Newcastle.
      At the time of his death he had 4 living childen (Jane 49, Ellen 40, John 36 and Francis 32).
      One son William had died in Dec 1881, the result of an accident, in Gouburn.

      James was burried on 6th July 1890 at the Roman Catholic Cemetery Necropolis at Rookwood:
