      Following from FamilySearch :
"Mary Jane's mother Rebecca Jeffery (nee Boon) died of Typhus Fever in 1839 when Mary Jane was just 2 years old. Her father Nicholas, a agricultural labourer, was left a widower with a small girl. He remarried on 18 Feb 1841 to Susanna Priter at the Parish church, Stokenham, Devonshire, England. One of the witnesses to this second marriage was John Camp.

John Camp, then played a major role in Mary Jane Jeffery's life. At the age of 4, she was taken by assisted passage on the "Earl Grey" to Australia accompanied by John and Jane Camp (nee Jeffery).

When Mary Jane married Joseph Cowell in 1853 she did so in the presence of Mr John Langhorn of the "Junction" near Nimatabell. John Langhorn was noted as Mary Jane's guardian. John was the husband of Agnes Camp and son-n-law of John and Jane Camp.

Mrs John Camp appears to have maintained a strong presence in Mary Jane's life as hers name appears as a witness on the birth certificate of Sarah Cowell in 1860."
